Picasa Web Album: Free Photo Hosting For 1 GB only!!!
Hello everyone. How are you guys?? Fine I hope. Anyways, today I am going to discuss a very important aspect of blogging which is, Photos. Yes, photos are what that turns a very boring blogs into a very interesting one. When I started my blog I had decided to make it very colorful. So naturally I began to use a lot of high resolution photos in my blog. Plus the "Insert Image" button in the online editor of blogger post really made me excited. I had began to think I could upload unlimited photos like this and make my blog full of them. But I was wrong!! (well I am wrong a lot of times)
Google Blogger does not host its own photos, i.e they store the pictures we add in posts somewhere else. I found out that it's in a Photo Hosting site called "Picasa Web Album". "Well so what?? As long as I can upload unlimited number of photos its good"- I thought. But when I entered the site to check my album I was very disappointed. I found a lot of stuffs in there but none of that matters to me anymore since I found a very limiting factor of this photo hosting: DOES NOT ALLOW UNLIMITED PHOTO HOSTING. You can check it yourself if you don't believe me.
Details on Picasa Web Allbum:
As you can see Picasa is directly integrated with your google account. If you use blogger then you are already registered with an account here. Just type in your google account details and you can sign in.
Once you go into the Picasa home page, look at the bottom of the page. You will find something saying,
"You are currently using 0 MB (0.00%) of your 1024 MB. Upgrade Storage"!!!
I was shocked when I found this. Picasa hosts your picture for free but there is a limit. A big limit of 1 GB hosting storage. After that you must pay to upgrade and get more storage. You can buy storage at four rates: 10 GB for 20$ per year, 40 GB for 75$ per year, 150 GB 250$ per year and 400 GB for 500$ per year!!!
If you have money or don't use pictures in your blog then go ahead and keep using Picasa. But for those with no money (like me) and who uses lots of pictures in their blog, this is a serious problem. We cannot simply keep on using Picasa or else we will hit a wall. We have to find a solution.
I have already started my search to find new alternatives of Picasa. One thing I know is that there is nothing free in Internet, but I am sure we can find an alternative of Picasa with far more less limitations. When I find them I will let you guys know.
